“We would have no hesitation in recommending Hallmark Kitchen Designs & have been delighted with their product & services. The whole process from initial to final design and eventual build was very professional with great customer service at every step. We received encouragement to use imagination but found Ian’s knowledge invaluable, almost second guessing our taste, and showing us how it would best work in practice. We have also been delighted with the quality of the final product. We would therefore have no hesitation in recommending this company.” – Recommendation on Houzz.co.uk

This project was born from a “difference in taste”. Our clients both had a strong view about what they wanted, but at the first briefing there seemed to be conflicting ideas. One wanted modern, and all of the convenience a new kitchen brings, whilst the other wanted something classic and timeless.

It became apparent fairly early on in the design process that neither party wanted to have partly their own way, it was going to be “their kitchen”. This space is where they both intended on spending a lot of time, so it had to be “win, win” for everyone involved. We all had to work hard to work out which compromises suited everyone. What were the “must have’s”, and what were the “must not have”.

The property is a typical Victorian detached house. The original layout was made up of a small separate dining area, downstairs cloakroom, brick pantry and a narrow kitchen. We were taking out every wall to make one large kitchen and dining area.

As we were planning on a complete redesign, it was important to carefully plan the new space. My client’s homework was to let me know how they envisaged themselves using the space when it was finished. As designers, we’ve learnt never to guess the answer to this question. We all use our kitchens in very different ways.

The end result is a kitchen that is a true reflection of our client’s individual tastes, but with a great attitude towards each other’s ideas and real togetherness, we created a design that both partners loved equally.
