Caring for The Expressions Doors (Cut & Edged MFC)
Caring for EGGER MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard) kitchen doors is simple due to their durable and hygienic surface. Regular, gentle cleaning is key to maintaining their appearance and avoiding damage.
Cleaning and General Care.
- Regular Cleaning: Dust the doors regularly with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth to prevent the buildup of dirt and grime.
- Mild Cleaning Solution: For general cleaning, use a solution of warm water and a few drops of a mild, neutral dish soap (non-abrasive).
- Application: Dampen a soft microfiber cloth with the solution, wring out excess moisture, and gently wipe the surface. Always wipe parallel to the surface texture where possible.
- Rinse and Dry: After cleaning, wipe the doors with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue. Immediately dry the surface thoroughly with a separate, soft, lint-free cloth to prevent streaks and moisture damage, especially around edges and joints.
- Gloss Surfaces: Extra care, and extra soft, clean cloths should be used when drying / buffing gloss kitchen doors.
- Stubborn Stains: For tougher stains, a commercially available grease cleaner or power cleaner can be used, but always test on an inconspicuous area first.
- Anti-fingerprint Surfaces: For specific anti-fingerprint surfaces (like PerfectSense Matt), regular cleaning is still important to maintain this property and appearance.
What to Avoid
To prevent permanent damage, do not use the following:
- Abrasive cleaners and scouring agents (e.g., scouring powder, steel wool, heavy-duty sponges, “magic erasers”).
- Strong acids or strong acidic salts (e.g., descaler, drain cleaner, vinegar for general use).
- Polishes, waxes, furniture cleaners, or re-greasing cleaners, as these can build up a sticky layer that attracts dirt.
- Solvents like acetone, methylated spirits, or nail polish remover for general cleaning; they should only be used sparingly for specific tough stains like ink, and then rinsed off immediately.
- Steam cleaners, as excessive heat and moisture can cause delamination or swelling of the chipboard core, especially at the edges.
Maintenance and repair.
- Address damage promptly: If you notice any lifting, bubbles, or nicks, repair them immediately to prevent moisture or heat from causing further damage.
- Maintain Vulnrable points: All Panels, Posts or any furniture touching the floor should be considered a vulnrable point, and extra care should be taken when using a floor mop. If there is a spilage, then it should be dealt with immidiatley to avoid water ingress. These vulnrable points should be sealed for extra protection. Silicone and Sealants can perish over time, and will need to be re-appliied as part of the on going kitchen maintanace.
- Avoid excessive heat: Do not open dishwasher doors untill the cycle has finished fully, and the cavity has dried and cooled down. Do not leave oven door open, for long periods of time during cooking. Do not use high heat generating appliances like kettles, toasters air fryers etc. under kitchen furniture. Not following the above guidance can cause your kitchen products to crack, warp, swell or peel.
- Ventalation: To avoid any adverse effect to your kitchen products, a well ventalated room in recommended. Always use your cooker extractor whilst cooking, and open windows or doors to remove surpluss mosture when needed.
- Limit direct sun: Melimine finishes can change colour when exposed to sun light, and humidity – the intensity of exposure will affect the rate of change. This is an enevitable feature of melimine products. Because of this, any replacement doors required at any point in the future, may not be an exact match. Although they can age/blend in better over time.
- By following these simple guidelines, your EGGER MFC kitchen doors will remain in excellent condition for years to come.
